About

Who we are

The Society was established in 1924 and has amassed an archive of over 12000 items. It is continually researching the history of the Peninsula from Barrenjoey to North Head and from Killarney Heights to Cottage Point.

The historical perspective commences with the natural history of the area advancing through the Aboriginal settlement and then to colonial times up to the present. This history is continually expanding identifying people, places, implements of various kinds, organisations and the natural environment.

The Society keeps its members informed through its monthly newsletter (the “Peninsula Historian”) and its website. We conduct monthly talks at easily accessible venues on the Peninsula, focusing on topics of not only local relevance but also history as it relates to Australia and the world.

The Society arranges walks and tours to coincide with the Heritage Festival in April and History Week in September. On the Peninsula, we take part in local events such as the Brookvale Show Day. We also assist the general public and local organisations with their historical and archival enquiries and in doing so link with other historical societies both here and overseas.

Meetings are held on the second Saturday of each month, except December.

Meetings begin at 14.00 at the Curl Curl Community Centre, cnr. Griffin and Abbott Roads.

Visitors are very welcome at our meetings but we do ask for a donation of $5 to help cover expenses.

Refreshments are provided.
